AUTOMOBILE: Rallye de France Alsace 2014 - WRC - 02/09/2014 to 05/09/2014

The Volkswagen Motorsport Finnish driver won the 2014 Rally France-Alsace today, Sunday, from Norwegian Andreas Mikkelsen (VW Polo-R) and Brit Kris Meeke (Citroën DS3).

The fifth Rally France-Alsace finished in the Zenith in Strasbourg in front of several hundred thousand spectators, all lovers of motor sport. It was a moment of celebration and sharing and the amateur drivers and officials were all congratulated on their performance. The rally was yet again a big success in terms of the sporting side and organisation thanks to the involvement of the local communities, partners and suppliers without forgetting the marshals and state services who are all volunteers. Jari-Matti Latvala won the 11th round of the World Rally Championship today in Alsace. It was his 12th victory and his first on tarmac. This result closes the gap between the Finn and his team-mate, Sébastien Ogier, to 27 points. Ogier, who was hit by mechanical problems in the first leg, was unable to score six more points than Latvala to clinch his second world rally championship title in Alsace. However, the Frenchman achieved the aim he set himself in the last stage of the French round: namely, to win the Power Stage. Although he failed to win the title in Alsace and finished 13th overall, he is now preparing for the next round of the world championship in Spain on 23-25 October. He is still the hot favourite for the 2014 title. In the Junior WRC, Frenchmen Stéphane Lefebvre and Thomas Dubois wrapped up the world title in their Citroën DS3 R3. In WRC 2, Quentin Gilbert, Citroën Racing driver and former Rallye Jeunes FFSA laureate, won the 2014 Rally France-Alsace. In WRC3, victory went to British crew Alastair Fisher-Gordon Noble (Citroën DS3 R3T). Romain Dumas and Denis Giraudet (Porsche 997 GT3) triumphed in the GT category. Forthcoming rounds of the WRC Rally Spain : 23 - 26 October Rally Great Britain: 13 - 16 November
