AUTOMOBILE: Rallye de France- WRC -02/10/2014

During its meeting of 20th January 2015 in Paris the French Motor Sports Federation’s Executive Committee noted the partial or total withdrawal of several Alsatian local authorities. The FFSA Executive Committee would like to point out that the organisation of a world championship rally demands three prerequisites: the financial participation of the territorial authorities, the support of private partners and the right sporting, promotional and popular dimensions linked to hosting such an event on French territory. The Executive Committee acknowledges that the first condition is no longer met by the Alsatian territorial authorities despite the large economic fallout for the Alsatian region,* and the popular success of the event.** The Executive Committee regrets the fact that the world championship can no longer take place in Alsace given the exceptional adventure that the organisation of Rally Alsace has been since 2010 marked by the titles of French rally champions, Sébastien Loeb and Sébastien Ogier. The FFSA would like to thank all those who helped it including the public and private partners, the volunteers and the rally personnel who, thanks to their involvement over five years made Rally France one of the best events in the World Rally Championship. As a result, the Executive Committee has decided to carry out an investigation to propose an alternative solution to enable the 2015 Rally France to take place. A press release will be issued at a later date on this subject.   *Rally France-Alsace generated an average of over 20 million euros economic fallout on Alsatian territory per year. **Almost 400 000 visitors attended the rally each year, which received media coverage from almost 500 regional, national and international journalists. Rally France-Alsace, the French round of the FIA World Rally Championship, was run directly by the French Motor Sports Federation (FFSA) from 2010 to 2014 in Alsace. The FFSA was founded in 1952 and is one of the 200 sporting associations that are part of the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile). Its president is Nicolas Deschaux and it is a proxy of the Minister of Sports, Youth and Popular Education and Associations. The FFSA’s mission is to organise, develop and promote motor sport and kart racing in France.
